Activities UCC

The activities of UCC are:

Advice, construction and technical service relating to the following infrastructures: utilities, public lighting, ICT networks, cable television and telecommunications systems”.

Facilities regarding public infrastructures and private networks
Communication between different places through word, voice (IP), image, video and data is increasingly finding its way through Suriname. There is hereby intensive use of infrastructure systems that are undergoing constant development. The transport of this information through fixed connections in whatever form, has fewer restriction in terms of capacity and speed.

The developments in the field of telecommunications improve the mobility and quality of life. This quality is also enhanced by improved availability of telecommunications, electricity and drinking water infrastructures and facilities. UCC is active in these areas and offers a range of services and products for public and private infrastructures.
Service and products

UCC offers in Suriname the following services and products:

The services include installation of public infrastructures (telecommunications/ ICT for voice/ IP, data, video, electricity, and water), private networks and civil works.

Projects are acquired and implemented through turnkey and/or subcontracting.

Supply products

UCC deliver products which are related to cable connections, connecting materials for cables, telephone and computer networks.

History and Activities
UCC started its activities in Suriname in 1995 with a contract from the telecommunications operator (Telco) in Suriname. This contract included the realization of fiber optic connections for telecommunications within Paramaribo, from Paramaribo to Guyana and in a later stage also from Paramaribo to French Guiana and to the Adolf Pengel airport.

Parallel to the realization of these connections, contracts were also acquired from the telecommunications operator (Telco) to help reduce waiting time for residential connections.

UCC has a wide variety of civil engineering equipment, among other things for the opening and closing of cable and pipeline routes as well as equipment for making street crossings without breaking open the road surface and we have thus become active with regard to civil engineering services for the distribution of electricity and drinking water.

Based on the knowledge of telecommunications, UCC also offers services to companies and individuals in the field of telephone and data communications. In many places in Suriname, for both large and small companies, high quality and universal cabling systems have been installed.

UCC was founded in 1995 in Netherlands from ULC, a large and well-known company for E&W installation, and became independent in 1998.

Because of the strong historical ties, there is a close cooperation with former sister companies in the field of equipment, technical expertise, logistics, and education for UCC employees as well as in other areas.
Mission

Modern and reliable infrastructures (ICT, energy and water) make a positive contribution to society, strengthen the economy and facilitate the sustainable development of Suriname.

UCC makes an important contribution as a market leader in the field of construction and maintenance of indoor, outdoor, underground and above-ground infrastructures for electricity (partly), water and telecom/fiber optic, as well as the supply and installation of active ICT equipment.

Our qualified and motivated UCC Team carries out these works in accordance with international quality requirements and standards in a labor-friendly and environmentally friendly manner.

Slogan

This new slogan aims to underline the importance of UCC's work and its contribution to the development of Suriname and also to emphasize that every employee, without exception, is an important link in this "development chain".

In an elaboration, the SDGs are linked to the business objectives in the following ways/dimensions:

  1. Connect SDGs with mission, vision and core values of UCC;
  2. Connect SDGs with “core business UCC”: with the construction of infrastructures in the field of electricity, water and telecom (SDG 6, 7 9), UCC facilitates the development of Suriname;
  3. Connect SDGs with policy and activities regarding Corporate Social Responsibility. UCC has used the SDGs as a guideline in its sponsor policy and budget (mainly SDG 1, 3, 4, 12-15)

The policy regarding the SDGs will also be linked to the internationally known “Environmental, Social and Governance” (ESG) policy as well as to the UN Global Compact:

UN Global Compact

The UN Global Compact is a voluntary initiative that encourages companies worldwide to embrace sustainable and socially responsible policies. It promotes ten principles in four key areas:

  1. human rights;
  2. labor;
  3. environment;
  4. anti-corruption.

The Ten Principles here are:

  1. Human rights
    • Principle 1: Support and respect the protection of internationally recognized human rights.
    • Principle 2: Ensure that companies are not complicit in human rights violations.
  2. Labor
    • Principle 3: Uphold freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining.
    • Principle 4: Abolish all forms of forced and compulsory labour.
    • Principle 5: Abolition of child labor.
    • Principle 6: Eliminate discrimination in employment and occupation.
  3. Environment
    • Principle 7: Support a precautionary approach to environmental problems.
    • Principle 8: Take initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.
    • Principle 9: Encourage the development and dissemination of environmentally friendly technologies.
  4. Anti-corruption
    • Principle 10: Work against all forms of corruption, including extortion and bribery.

The UN Global Compact aims to align businesses with these values to promote a sustainable and inclusive global economy.
