Communication between different places through word, voice (IP), image, video and data is increasingly finding its way through Suriname. There is hereby intensive use of infrastructure systems that are undergoing constant development. The transport of this information through fixed connections in whatever form, has fewer restriction in terms of capacity and speed.
UCC is certified according to international standards: ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 45001 (safety and working conditions) and ISO 14001 (environment).
Slogan
This new slogan aims to underline the importance of UCC's work and its contribution to the development of Suriname and also to emphasize that every employee, without exception, is an important link in this "development chain".
In an elaboration, the SDGs are linked to the business objectives in the following ways/dimensions:
- Connect SDGs with mission, vision and core values of UCC;
- Connect SDGs with “core business UCC”: with the construction of infrastructures in the field of electricity, water and telecom (SDG 6, 7 9), UCC facilitates the development of Suriname;
- Connect SDGs with policy and activities regarding Corporate Social Responsibility. UCC has used the SDGs as a guideline in its sponsor policy and budget (mainly SDG 1, 3, 4, 12-15)
The policy regarding the SDGs will also be linked to the internationally known “Environmental, Social and Governance” (ESG) policy as well as to the UN Global Compact:
UN Global Compact
The UN Global Compact is a voluntary initiative that encourages companies worldwide to embrace sustainable and socially responsible policies. It promotes ten principles in four key areas:
- human rights;
- labor;
- environment;
- anti-corruption.
The Ten Principles here are:
-
Human rights
- Principle 1: Support and respect the protection of internationally recognized human rights.
- Principle 2: Ensure that companies are not complicit in human rights violations.
-
Labor
- Principle 3: Uphold freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining.
- Principle 4: Abolish all forms of forced and compulsory labour.
- Principle 5: Abolition of child labor.
- Principle 6: Eliminate discrimination in employment and occupation.
- Environment
- Principle 7: Support a precautionary approach to environmental problems.
- Principle 8: Take initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.
- Principle 9: Encourage the development and dissemination of environmentally friendly technologies.
- Anti-corruption
- Principle 10: Work against all forms of corruption, including extortion and bribery.
The UN Global Compact aims to align businesses with these values to promote a sustainable and inclusive global economy.
